It started as a drawing.
Early 2021. Kyle Van Dyn Hoven is sitting in front of an iPad drawing cartoon doges. Not because there's a roadmap. Not because there's a marketing plan. Because the doges are fun, the line work feels right, and the world is suddenly paying attention to small projects with a strong point of view.
On July 12, 2021, the OG mint goes live. Ten thousand hand-drawn Doges, each one made by hand, no generative tricks. They sell out. Twitter notices. And in the replies, the comments, the Discord — a howl starts going up. AWOO. The premise — doges helping dogs — is still just a tweet under a profile picture. A promise made before there's anything to point to.
And then the harder part begins: keeping it.
